The Story Behind the Passion
I grew up in a small town in the South, where my father owned a furniture store. My mother was an artist and taught me to see the world through an artist eye. From an early age, I was encouraged to use my imagination and express myself. Even as a child I was opinionated about color and intuitively knew it affected me. Now I know it affects everyone.
We inherited antiques that were used daily. Nothing pretentious, but I learned respect for those pieces. We were not a “throw it away” family. I’ve loved sourcing vintage pieces and antiques all of my life. Any time I can get to an antique store in any country, I’m ready.
I went to collage to study clothing design. I started my work life in retail with a wonderful mentor who ushered me into the world of Fashion Show Production. I got to meet and work with Bill Blass in my early 20’s. How lucky was I?! (by the way, he smelled incredible)
After several years there, I became the Fabric Fashion Designer at Rich’s downtown store. We had 2 seamstresses working full time to create clothing from the fabric I chose.
I was a kid in a candy store! I had worked in a fabric store as a teen to pay for my fabric buying habit, but having a staff to create clothing was over the top. I also went on buying trips to NYC.
From there I went into film and television production as a wardrobe stylist and designer. I’m very proud to have worked on “Fried Green Tomatoes” in the wardrobe department.
I then had the privilege of becoming the wardrobe designer for Turner Classic Movies for over seven years. During that time I was renovating and decorating a modest house in Atlanta. When many friends and colleagues asked for my help with their homes, I caught the decorating bug. I am very grateful to all those who allowed me to hone my skills while developing my craft.
